The changing face of Chicago's Loop
Last hurrah Feb 28
First, it was Field's.
Then Trader Vic's.
Now The Berghoff.
Are you shitting me?
What's next? The Art Institute? Buckingham Fountain?
I guess that's progress. Or greed. Maybe both. Add them to the scrap heap with the Union Stockyards, Geri's Palm Tavern, The Checkerboard Lounge, Riverview and Old Comiskey Park.

It's the homogenization of a great, unique city at work, and it makes me sick. Some friends and I are planning a long weekend in Chicago this spring so we can get together and eat like crazy because we all love lunch. The Berghoff was the first place on our list, but it will be closed by then. The local portion of our group is planning a special farewell celebration there before it closes. Between Field's and The Berghoff it feels like some of the great gems of this city are being lost.
Well, Jade, that's progress... I guess... Not all is lost. Apparently, the bar is going to remain open.
Hey Juicy Fruit - I checked out your blog. WOW - I never knew Park Rangers led such exciting lives! Man, I really chose the wrong line of work.
