Media Shemedia

Two nights back, I caught about 15 minutes of SportsCenter on ESPN. They had three features on spring training. Guess what teams they focused on? Yep, the Yankess (who really think they have the horses to do 'it' this year) the Red Sox (and their all-new infield) and the St. Louis Cardinals (not sure what was discussed, because by then, I'd tuned out). Let the east coast media bias began. They must despise the fact that the White Sox are the defending world champions and the South Side is a baseball backwater no more.

Oh, they did have a follow-up on the whole pissing contest between KW and Frank. Its already been covered to death by every other Sox blogger and the media, so I'm not going to bother to write about it here.

Shut up and play ball.

I feel your pain, EZ. This is why my "relationship" with The World Wide Leader in Sports has always been one of the love/hate variety.

Even during the '95 and '97 seasons, there was comparatively little national coverage. I remember beating the Yankees in the playoffs in '97 ... you'd have thought we killed ESPN's dog. /Tony M.

East coast bias when they included St. Louis? It's farther west than Chicago....

Well, they had to include ONE national league team... I guess the producers at ESPN think that the Cards 'play well to the hillbillies in the sticks'.

Still, they SHOULD focus more attention on the White Sox.

Same thing with the Wall St Journal. I saw an artcile last week that gushed about spring training, the Astros, and the Indians. Sure, no mention of the Yankees or Red Sox (for once), but what about the World Champion Chicago White Sox?

This year, they need to do it again and show the world of sports who is the BOSS!
